Senate Bill ("SB") 1383 requires all residents, businesses, and multi-family complexes to compost organic material such as food scraps and landscape/yard trimmings. The City offers curbside organics collection for composting through its franchised hauler, Republic Services. By placing food scraps, landscape trimmings, and other organic materials into the compost instead of the trash receptacle, it helps to reduce landfill-associated greenhouse gas emissions. Interested residents can also explore backyard composting to compost certain food scraps and landscape/yard debris right at home.
Curbside Composting for Residents and Businesses
Residents and businesses can dispose of “organic” materials such as food scraps along with landscape/yard debris in their existing green carts for curbside collection.
Republic Services offers free kitchen organics pails to interested residents and indoor green receptacles and trainings to businesses upon request. To request a free kitchen pail or business indoor green receptacle or training, contact Republic Services at (925) 685-4711.
Republic Services periodically offers Martinez households free compost, a rich soil amendment made from the recycled food scraps and yard debris! For information on the next giveaway, please email Republic Services or visit RepublicServices.com/MartinezCA. Proof of residency required.
