The Engineering Division, as part of the Public Works Department, works with other city departments and programs to design, plan and construct public facilities including street, curb ramps, storm drain, creeks, traffic signals, parks, buildings, marina, and water treatment/distribution systems. Staff in this division is also involved with the following:
- Manage the City’s Clean Water Program.
- Establish and maintain the Landscape and Lighting Assessment Districts and CCC Sanitary District No. 6.
- Manage the maintenance and installation of traffic control devices/markings/signs, review traffic related complaints and inquiries, conduct investigations and perform engineering analysis related to transportation, and coordinate with other City officials in ways and means to improve traffic safety.
- Support Community/Economic Development by reviewing and processing residential, commercial and industrial development application in conformance with City Standards.
- Review and issue encroachment, grading, site development, and transportation permit applications.
- Manage the City's Sidewalk Repair Program.
- Prepare grant applications for Local, State and Federal agencies to fund major Capital Improvement Projects.
- Manage the City’s major engineering/public works projects:
- Represent the city on local or regional boards and commissions including the Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA), California Department of Transportation (CalTrans), Capital Corridor Joint Powers Authority and Transportation Partnership and Cooperation (TRANSPAC) for Central Contra Costa.
