Introducing Solar APP+ - Residential Solar Permit Streamlining

What Solar Installers need to know

Licensed contractors in the City of Martinez are now able to apply for residential solar panel installation permits online with the help of SolarAPP+, a web-based portal for residential solar energy system installations, developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory to automate project plan reviews.

SolarAPP+ allows for a quicker permitting process and allows the City to issue qualifying Residential Solar Photovoltaic (“PV”) permits faster.

Other Residential and Commercial Solar Projects

All Multifamily Residential and Commercial Solar projects may be submitted over the counter between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 1p.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday or emailed to the Building Permit Center. Before Applying for Solar APP+

For an automated solar plan review and solar permit, projects must follow certain requirements. SolarAPP+ is designed to provide a code-compliance check for the majority of residential, roof-mounted, retrofit PV systems. To see which systems are eligible, please refer to the Eligibility Checklists. Only projects that conform to the Eligibility Checklist are eligible to use the automated SolarAPP+ portal for permitting.

How to Start using Solar App+

Submit for automated review through Solar APP+

To start using SolarAPP+, log in and submit your design through the SolarAPP+ Webpage.

A processing fee from SolarAPP+ and City of Martinez permit fees will be charged.

Download the approved plans.

Receive an email within one business day containing the City of Martinez permit number (for example 24BLD-XXXX) needed for scheduling inspections.

Schedule an Inspection

Inspections are available during normal City business hours and can be requested for morning (9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) or afternoon (1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.).
