Planning oversees how land and buildings are used for commercial and residential projects. Development proposals are reviewed to ensure projects are consistent with Martinez's character while in accordance with the Cities General Plan, Zoning Ordinance, and State and Federal laws. - Zoning Code (Title 22) - The Zoning Code contains specific requirements for new development projects in Martinez. It also establishes which land uses (types of businesses and residences) are allowed in each zoning district.
- Subdivisions (Title 21) - This title regulates the subdivision of land and requires the provision of certain improvements and payment of in-lieu fees which are needed as a consequence of the subdivision of land.
- Signs (Title 16) - This title regulates and controls the design, materials, construction, size, location and maintenance of signs and sign structures.
- Trees on Private Property - Preservation, Protection, and Removal (Chapter 8.12) - This chapter governs preservation of certain protected trees in the City of Martinez. The purpose of this Chapter is to provide for protection of trees on private property by controlling tree removal while allowing for reasonable enjoyment of private property rights and property development.
- Noise Control (Chapter 8.34) - This chapter is intended to implement the goals of the Noise Element of the 1973 General Plan by prescribing standards prohibiting detrimental levels of noise.
